About Me

“Give your daughters difficult names. give your daughters names that command the full use of tongue. My name makes you want to tell me the truth. my name doesn’t allow me to trust anyone that cannot pronounce it right.”― Warsan Shire

I am Shaheena Shahid, first generation American, first in my family to attend college as well. I am an educator/ activist which go hand in hand. Representation is critical to creating a more inclusive, social justice oriented, and knowledge enriched world. Growing up, I never had a Muslim or any POC educator, until I reached college. Education is foundational for our world, but it should not take me 18 years to see someone who looks like me, to empower my community or give a voice to my issues. I entered education so I can uplift myself as well as my society therefore, I must create platforms and resources which can provide tools to create critical thinkers who have innovative solutions to our world in crisis.
